Dear Female Roommates' Boyfriend.

If I tell you I would prefer you not do something in my house or on my property, that means DON'T DO IT ANYWAY. I realize no one has ever really held you accountable for the stupid shit you do, but it's pissing me off. This is why I don't invite you over anymore. So please stop splicing fireworks together in my living room and then setting them off out front.

Sincerely,

Me.

CISPA is the new SOPA

Here's their next move: The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, would obliterate any semblance of online privacy in the United States.

And CISPA would provide a victory for content owners who were shell-shocked by the unprecedented outpouring of activism in opposition to SOPA and Internet censorship.

The House of Representatives is planning to take up CISPA later this month. Click here to ask your lawmakers to oppose it.

SOPA was pushed as a remedy to the supposed economic threat of online piracy -- but economic fear-mongering didn't quite do the trick.

So those concerned about copyright are engaging in sleight of hand, appending their legislation to a bill that most Americans will assume is about keeping them safe from bad guys.

This so-called cyber security bill aims to prevent theft of "government information" and "intellectual property" and could let ISPs block your access to websites -- or the whole Internet.

Don't let them push this back-door SOPA. Click here to demand that your lawmakers oppose CISPA.

CISPA also encourages companies to share information about you with the government and other corporations.

That data could then be used for just about anything -- from prosecuting crimes to ad placements.

And perhaps worst of all, CISPA supercedes all other online privacy protections.

Please click here to urge your lawmakers to oppose CISPA when it comes up for a vote this month.

Thanks for fighting for the Internet.

Please repost this? I have never begged for one of my posts to be boosted. I am just so worried for my friends and want you to know.

According to this article, dated March 15, 2012:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/webnews/major-isps-turn-into-copyright-police-by-july-says-riaa/

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Fox news confirms this:

SOPA Boycott: I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

They pulled both SOPA and PIPA, yah!

But...(and you knew there was going to be a but):
SOPA Defeat Is Not the End Of Hollywood's Ramped-Up Fight Against Piracy (Analysis)

This is what Hollywood is saying and what they are planning: push for more criminal federal and international enforcement, use the courts to get civil injunctive relief, and keeping rewriting the copyright laws in their favor. Remember the lawsuit against Youtube is still to be decided. Imagine Youtube being out out of business just like Megaupload (although Youtube is not even coming close to pulling some of the boneheaded Megaupload moves).

"SOPA protesters roundly cheered when DNS-blocking was taken out of the anti-piracy bills before Congress. But just because Congress won't explicitly approve such measures doesn't mean that they won't happen. In piracy cases going forward, Holllywood can ask sympathetic judges to grant such relief anyway."

Since I know we're in it for the long haul and that the efforts to silence speech in favor of corporate interests will continue, I plan to carry on with the SOPA Boycott in March.

Nor am I alone in coming to this conclusion:

"The MPAA studios hate us. They hate us with region locks and unskippable screens and encryption and criminalization of fair use. They see us as stupid eyeballs with wallets, and they are entitled to a constant stream of our money. They despise us, and they certainly don’t respect us.

Yet when we watch their movies, we support them....They use our support to buy these laws.

So maybe, instead of waiting for the MPAA’s next law and changing our Twitter avatars for a few days in protest, it would be more productive to significantly reduce or eliminate our support of the MPAA member companies starting today, and start supporting campaign finance reform.

I'm not even sure how to start.  My Dad's dead.  He passed away sometime last night.  When I came home a little after 11, I found dried blood on the kitchen floor, and Daddy slumped over on the toilets seat in the upstairs bathroom.  There was blood all over the floor.  He has vericose veins, and they've been an issue lately, he's been bleeding from his ankle. He had a doctor's appointment yesterday, and Mom said they cauterized that vein in his leg.  The EMT said he bled out fairly quickly, and I know he's in Heaven now, with Papa.  The thing is, he had time to get upstairs, and try to treat it himself, he could have called 911.  Or he could have called me to say there was something wrong-I would have called 911 myself and had them come check on him.

I'm still in shock, and I think my Mom is too.  I can't believe he's gone; he drove me nuts sometimes, but he's my Dad, and I love him so much.  Mom's bedridden, and that means it falls to me to take care of all the legal stuff, which I can see is a daunting task, and I'm not sure where to start.  I'm taking things an hour at a time right now, waiting on the cleaning service the police officers recommended to come and deal with the clean up.

I think my cat is traumatized too. She was huddled on the living room floor when I came home, and she's been hovering around me and very clingy.

So there's this musician...

Posted on 2010.06.08 at 16:24

His name is Cassidy Haley, and he's awesome.

Cassidy Haley is an independent, singer-songwriter from Los Angeles. His new CD, The Fool, comes out on July 13. His music is a mix of pop and modern acoustic rock. The Fool is a groundbreaking, captivating album. His fans are spreading the word about The Fool so it can be heard by as many people as possible. Generating interest and publicity are important. Sharing the music is essential.

That means pressing at least 2,000 CDs, printing thousands of promotional posters and postcards to distribute and creating more opportunities to get the word out about Cassidy and his music. Since he’s a completely independent musician, the money for these needs is scarce.

Please visit http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cassidyhaley/give-the-fool-the-wings-to-fly for an opportunity to help The Fool be successful. Kickstarter.com provides an easy place for fans to support their favorite artists, like Cassidy, by making a donation and earning some really cool rewards. Pledge just $30 and get an autographed, early release copy of The Fool!

Plus, the person whose donation gets the total to $4,000 or above gets a signed lyric sheet of their choice. The person who gets it to $4,500 or above gets a "mystery package" full of goodies and a signed lyric sheet. And the person who makes the pledge that gets it to the final $5,000 mark will get the choice of having a song written about them by Cassidy Haley or having him cover a song they'd like to hear!

Please, donate today and know that you are supporting a creative, talented artist and making the musical landscape a more beautiful place for everyone. For more information about Cassidy Haley and to hear his music, please visit www.cassidyhaley.com.

Went to the The Night 89X Stole Christmas concert last night.  My first 30 Seconds to Mars concert.  Oh.My.God.  Just, wow.  Waited through four other bands, who were pretty good, but Mars is who I was there to see, and I was not disappointed.  They had so much energy and enthusiasm, and the set was great-they did some songs from A Beautiful Lie, some acoustic, which was really awesome, and then finished with four tracks from the new cd, This Is War.  I screamed myself hoarse, my voice is so raw right now.  Spent most of their set standing on the armrests of my seat in the balcony.  They were signing the new cds after, so that was cool as well, but the venue people kinda rushed everyone though, barely had time to say hi.  Got to talk to Tomo for a minute later though, when he was down in the main lobby-got a hug from him too!  the whole band are really sweet guys, and I had so much fun, I was so wired when I got out, I was up until 4am.  They've only got a couple more US shows, then it's off to Europe, but Jared said that they'll be back in the US again in the spring and I am so looking forward to it.  And I added to my collection of Mars merchandise (three necklaces, wristband, keychain, patch and tshirt) with one of the This Is War T-shirts and a hoodie.  And I've really gotta go leave a thank you note for [personal profile] lisaroquin because she's the one who got me hooked on the band.

But wow, what an awesome night!
